Moreton Bay Queensland Day Celebrations

What a delight it was to join in the Queensland Day celebrations at Moreton Bay College on Tuesday 3rd  June.  The Music Centre was the ideal venue to enjoy this annual event in the Primary School calendar. Chaplain Narelle McNamara shared the story of Rebecca from the Old Testament ,  the dancers uplifted us and the guest speaker, Ms Michelle Worthington, inspired us.

Michelle is a College old girl from when I was teaching at MBC so it was special to hear from her. She is a published author of children’s picture books, all of which hold a positive message. (http://www.michelleworthington.com/  ) What particularly stayed with me was Michelle’s sharing that she remembered  Moreton Bay as a place where girls could “try everything” while having a “soft place to land” when things didn’t work out as hoped.

A central element of the Celebrations was the recognising of local women who had voluntarily contributed significantly to the community and a presentation to a person who has contributed to the Arts in Queensland. . From left to right this year’s recipients are Mrs Dorothy  Barrie , Mrs Alyson Madsen,  Mrs Tracy Finnegan, Mrs Mary Wiseman and Ms Worthington.
